In 1969, the " operaismo " approach was active mainly in two different groups : " Lotta Continua ", led by Adriano Sofri ( which had a very significant Roman Catholic cultural matrix ), and " Potere Operaio ", led by Antonio Negri, Franco Piperno, Oreste Scalzone, and Valerio Morucci.

In 1969, together with Oreste Scalzone and Franco Piperno, Negri was one of the founders of the group Potere Operaio ( Workers'Power ) and the " Operaismo " ( workerist ) Communist movement . " Potere Operaio " disbanded in 1973 and gave rise to the Autonomia Operaia Organizzata ( Organised Workers'Autonomy ) movement.

In March 1968, clashes occurred at La Sapienza university in Rome, during the " Battle of Valle Giulia . " Mario Capanna, associated with the New Left, was one of the figures of the student movement, along with the members of " Potere Operaio " and " Autonomia Operaia " such as ( Antonio Negri, Oreste Scalzone, Franco Piperno and of " Lotta Continua " such as Adriano Sofri.
