On 22 December 1901 he inaugurated his school at Santiniketan , with five pupils , among them his eldest son , and with as many teachers . केवल पांच विद्यार्थियों के साथ 22 दिसंबर 1901 को उन्होंने शांतिनिकेतन में अपने विद्यालय की स्थापना की.इनमें से एक तो उनका ही सबसे बड़ा पुत्र था और उनके साथ कुछ शिक्षक भी थे .

To complete the writing of Mahabharata, Vedvyas first of all, he depute his son Sukdev to study the book after other pupils like Vaismpayan, Pail, Gemini, Asit-Devel etc. महाभारत ग्रंथ की रचना पूर्ण करने के बाद वेदव्यास जी ने सर्वप्रथम अपने पुत्र शुकदेव को इस ग्रंथ का अध्ययन कराया तदन्तर अन्य शिष्यों वैशम्पायन पैल जैमिनि असित-देवल आदि को इसका अध्ययन कराया।
