Six members of the Smithtown Fire Department, refilling their 500-gallon pumper at a fire hydrant about a mile north of the new flare-ups, stood in awe as they watched the C-130s fly directly into the heavy smoke, sweep in low about 150 feet above the ground and drop their water bombs on the burning pine trees.
