"Ondine " is based on the same " water sprite falls in love with a mortal " tale as " Rusalka " and " The Little Mermaid . " As such the sprite is again akin to Giselle, a fragile, then literally otherworldly creature symbolizing the allure, the danger and the unattainability of the romantic ideal of women.
