Under her mother s maiden name, Gerrish's first known professional stage performance was in the French comic opera " The Weathercock " ( " La girouette ", by Emile H�mery and Henri Bocage, with music by Auguste CSd�s ), at San Francisco s Bush Street Theatre in July 1880 with Emelle Melville s Comic Opera Company.

In 2013 " A Woman is a Weathercock " was performed by an all-boys company from Pocklington School at the Merchant Adventurers'Hall, York, on 27 and 28 November in a production described as the first staged since the 17th century " in the style of the original players, with a cast the same age as the originals, with the actors making lots of decisions, with the audience on three sides, with live music and song and without special lighting or any technology ".

When Robert William Elliston in 1804 quit Bath, he was replaced by Wrench, who made his appearance on 5 January 1805 as Gossamer in Laugh when you can, and Walter in Children in the Wood . In the new Bath house Wrench opened on 26 October 1805 as Percy in the Castle Spectre . He played during the season Archer in Beaux'Stratagem, Orlando, Belcour in West Indian, and Pedro in the Pilgrim . He then returned to York, and while there received an offer from Drury Lane, where he appeared, with the company then temporarily occupying the Lyceum, as Wrench from Bath and York, playing on 7 October 1809 Belcour in West Indian and Tristram Fickle in the Weathercock .
