Citing the need to ensure adequate power supply for next summer, the New York Power Authority trustees Tuesday authorized the purchase of up to 11 gas turbine generator sets.

Westinghouse experience with land-based gas turbines started as early as 1945 with the development of a 2000 hp ( ~ 1500 kW ) gas turbine generator set, the W21.

A 46 MW eSolar power unit consists of sixteen heliostat fields and towers, a single steam turbine generator set, and a steam condenser, with a typical footprint of approximately 100 hectares ( 250 acres ).

The power station, which is currently being decommissioned, had two Magnox reactors, each supplying steam to three English Electric 93.5MW turbine generator sets which were all together across both reactors designed to produce 500 MWe but, after de-rating of the reactor power output due to corrosion concerns, both reactors combined produced 470 MWe.

The station includes four peaking units, totalling 178 MW, and one base-load combined cycle unit of 210 MW . The four peaking units are : three 40 MW ( total 120 MW ) pre-existing ( from the Bell Bay Power Station ) Pratt & Whitney FT8 Twin Pac gas turbine alternators ( Units 101-103 ), and a single 58 MW Rolls Royce Trent 60WLE gas turbine alternator ( Unit 104 ) commissioned in May 2009 . The base-load unit is a 210 MW Mitsubishi M701DA gas turbine operating in combined cycle mode ( Unit 201 ) which completed commissioning in September 2009 . The Mitsubishi's combined cycle capacity of 210 MW includes 140 MW generated directly by the M701 gas turbine, and a further 70 MW generated by the Mitsubishi steam turbine generator set.
