After apolysis, gravid segments disintegrate, releasing eggs, which measure 30 to 47 �m in diameter.

Early in the process of apolysis the epithelial cells release enzymatic moulting fluid between the old cuticle and the epidermis.

Near the end of each stage, the larva undergoes a process called apolysis, mediated by the release of a series of neurohormones.
