In Britain the authorities constantly protest that we are not at war with Islam but with “terrorism,” which apparently exists in some sort of limbo, populated by “extremists” who have nothing to do with religion. Rabid Islamists like Omar Bakri Mohammed, leader of al-Mouhajiroun (an organization that, among other activities, has recruited young British Muslims to fight for the Taliban), are given generous and not always unfriendly exposure on British television, and are tolerated even when their activities and statements present a clear case of treason.
