Associated minerals include sylvanite, hessite, altaite, petzite, empressite, native tellurium, native gold, galena, sphalerite, colusite, tennantite and pyrite.

It occurs as microscopic inclusions within massive chalcopyrite at Temagami in association with other rare tellurides : merenskyite, st�tzite, hessite and an unnamed Pd-Hg-Ag telluride.
