The executive director of CAIR's Florida office, Altaf Ali, leapt to Mr. Okashah's defense. Muslims, he said, are “very concerned that a very humble member of the community, for asking a question about a rebate, can be put in jail.” Mr. Ali attributed Mr. Okashah's travails to a miscommunication exacerbated by the negative stereotyping of Muslims. A CAIR press release further specified that the arrest stemmed from “language barriers and overreactions by store employees and law enforcement officials.” Mr. Ali also sought to have the judge in the case removed because he had ordered Mr. Okashah to undergo a psychological evaluation. Nonetheless, Mr. Okashah is scheduled to go to trial on February 14 for the second-degree felony charge of “threatening to detonate an explosive device.” In CAIR's eyes, then, when a non-Muslim broker responds too emotionally to terrorism, he deserves years in jail and financial ruin. But when a Muslim broker threatens a store, he's the innocent victim of “negative stereotyping” who deserves release without any punishment at all. सीएआईआर के फ्लोरिडा कार्यालय के निदेशक अल्ताफ अली अचानक ओकाशाह के बचाव में आगे आए और कहा कि मुसलमान इस बात से बहुत चिंतित हैं कि इस समुदाय के एक विनम्र व्यक्ति को छूट के मामले में सवाल पूछने पर जेल में डाल दिया गया है .अली ने ओकाशाह के पूरे मामले को बड़े सामान्य तरीके से मुसलमानों को नकारात्मक तरीके से चित्रित करने से जोड़ दिया . सीएआईआर ने अपनी प्रेस रिलीज़ में कहा कि यह गिरफ्तारी भाषा कि गड़बड़ और स्टोर कर्मचारियों तथा कानून प्रवर्तकों की अतिशय प्रतिक्रिया के चलते हुई है . अली ने इस मामले से जुड़े न्यायाधीश को भी हटाने की मांग की क्योंकि उन्होंने ओकाशाह की मनोवैज्ञानिक जांच का आदेश दिया.कुछ भी हो ओकाशाह पर 14 फरवरी को विस्फोटक लगाने की धमकी के गंभीर आरोप में दूसरे चरण का मुकदमा चलेगा.
