Browser extensions which disable scripting for all but a trusted whitelist of sites, such as NoScript Security Suite, can be a useful defence against mousetrapping and malicious sites.

Once there, Web users often encountered a maze of pop-up advertising called " mousetrapping, " which sends up even more ads when surfers click the " back " button on their browser or try to close the windows altogether.

"' Mousetrapping "'is a technique used by some websites to keep visitors from leaving their website, either by launching an endless series of pop-up ads known colloquially as a " soggy biscuit " or by re-launching their website in a window that cannot be easily closed ( sometimes this window runs like a stand-alone application, and the taskbar and the browser's browser hijackers to reset the user's default homepage.
