The hindwings of the males have a broad red patch in the outer half standing between the hinder margin and the second median nervule.
2.
There are some long black scales on the median nervule and the stigmata are represented by tufts of white scales, with some black scales at the lower end of the reniform.
3.
The lunules in the submarginal row are very strongly developed, the apices of each lunule being elongated towards the margin; the tail formed by the prolongation of the middle median nervule is very marked, being nearly 3 / 8 inch long.
4.
Female resembles the male, but the anterior wings are rounder towards the apex; on those wings there is an additional spot above the lowest subcostal nervule, and an elongate spot in the cell on the inner side of the median nervure.
5.
The under surface of the anterior wings has the base of a dull cinnabar colour, striped longitudinally with white, the cell is crossed by a slightly silvery white band, and the discocellular nervule is marked by a short band of the same colour ."
6.
The forewings are pale straw-colour with a dark grey discal spot and an indistinct curved dark grey line beyond the middle, not reaching the costa and ill-defined towards the inner margin, containing a dark spot on the subcostal and another on the first median nervule, followed by three or four dark grey dashes, indicating a submarginal line.
7.
Female upperside : forewing with the violet area duller and confined to the immediate base of the wing; a quadrate white spot at the end of the discoidal cell; a tripartite subcostal spot; another elongated spot from the third median to the upper discoidal nervule, placed outwardly below it; a large quadrate discal spot, completely tilling the interspace between the first and third median nervules.
8.
Linn ., but on the posterior wings the stramineous band which crosses the wings before the middle is broader, and the spots in the submarginal row are more lunulate; at the lower end of the dark rufous spot above the anal angle is a large subovate black spot; and the middle median nervule is produced into a rather longer tail than in " P . demoleus ".
9.
Plate X figure 6 . The primary wings brownish black, with the summits clearer, and the outer margin ornamented with minute white spots; an oblique band of four unequal white spots, which are situated between the second discoidal nervule and the submedian nervure; viz . one above the first median nervule and the one below the third median nervule are very small, while the two others in between these are large and subquadrate.
