The "'grey-faced sengi "'( " Rhynchocyon udzungwensis " ) is a species of elephant shrew that is endemic to the Udzungwa Mountains of south-central Tanzania.

Other assorted mammalian prey species include the golden-rumped elephant shrew ( " Rhynchocyon chrysopygus " ) and the cape hyrax ( " Procavia capensis " ), although it is possible that juvenile hyraxes are rather more commonly taken than adults.

Like other members of the genus " Rhynchocyon ", it is a relatively large species, with adults averaging about 28 cm ( 11 in ) in length and 450-700 g ( 1.0-1.5 lb ) in weight.

Elephant shrews are not highly social animals, but many live in monogamous pairs, which share and defend their home territory, marked using scent glands . " Rhynchocyon " species also dig small conical holes in the soil, bandicoot-style, but others may make use of natural crevices, or make leaf nests.
