The bas-relief miniatures found in the famous Arjuna 's penance scene in Mahabalipuram is a typical replica of an ekatala alpa vimana with all the six angas or parts , viz . the adhishthana -LRB- moulded base -RRB- , pada , or bhitti -LRB- pillars or walls -RRB- , prastara -LRB- entablature with kapota or cornice -RRB- , griva -LRB- neck or clerestory -RRB- , sikhara -LRB- roof -RRB- , and stupi -LRB- finial -RRB- . महाबलीपुरम में अर्जुन की तपस्या के दृश्य में प्राप्त लघु नक़्काशी , अधिष्ठान , पद या भित्ति , प्रस्तर , ग्रीवा , शिखर और स्तूपी के षडांग सहित एक एकतल अल्प विमान का प्रतिरूप है .

Such religious and secular structures are indicated in the early bas-relief sculptures belonging to the centuries immediately before and after Christ , e.g . Barhut and Sanchi in the north and Amaravati and Nagarjunakonda and other places in the south . इस प्रकार के धार्मिक तथा लौकिक ढांचे ईसवी सन् के प्रारभं तथा तत्काल बाद की उकेरी गई आकृतियों तथा मूर्तियों की नक़्काशी में दृष्टिगत होते हैं-उदाहरणार्थ भारहुत और सांची-उत्तर में तथा दक्षिण में नार्गाजुनकोंडा और अमरावती आदि स्थानों पर .

It will be useful to consider along with these the eight miniature bas-relief representations of vimanas found in the same place , as also the full-scale example of the trimurti cave-temple facade , since they taken together would illustrate various forms of the southern vimanas . इनके साथ ही उसी स्थान पर पाई गई विमानों की द्योतक आठ लघु आधार-नक़्काशी और त्रिमूर्ति गुफा मंदिर के अग्रभाग के पूर्ण अनुपात के उदाहरण पर भी विचार करना उपयोगी होगा क़्योंकि ये सब मिलाकर दक्षिणी विमान के विभिन्न रूप विधानो का निदर्शन कराते हैं .

This was in addition to his unique invention of totally cut-out monolithic temple forms , or vimanas , the so-called rathas , and some open air bas-relief compositions of considerable size and superb quality , all confined to the great Pallava port-city of Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram . यह उसके उस विशिष्ट आविष्कार के अतिरिक़्त था , जिसमें संपूर्ण रूप से तराशे गए एकाश्मक मंदिर रूपों , या विमानों , तथाकथित रथों और कुछ पर्याप्त आकार प्रकार तथा उत्कृष्ट स्तर की खुली नक़्काशीदार रचनाएं की गई जो सब की सब मामल्लपुरम या महाबलीपुरम के महान पल्लव पत्तन नगर तक सीमित थीं .

The carving of these monolith vimanas , all confined to Mahabalipuram , seems to have continued for at least two generations after Mamalla , that is , till about AD 700 when , perhaps , sculptures in bas-relief of the principal deities were carved in the sanctuaries of two of these vimanasthe Draupadi ratha and the top storey of the Dharmaraja ratha . इन एकाश्म विमानों का तक्षण , जो कि सबका सब महाबलिपुरम तक सीमित है , लगता है कि मामल्ल के बाद दो पीढ़ियों तक अर्थात 700 ईसवी तक चलता रहा जब शायद मुख़्य देवता की नक़्काशी के रूप में इन विमानों के मंदिरों में-द्रौपदी रथ में और धर्मराज रथ के ऊपरी तल पर मूर्तियां तराशी गईं .
