Varahamihira also refers to the popular , unscientific notions about the eclipses , and states that , “ However , common people are always loud in proclaiming the Head to be the cause of an eclipse , and they say , ' If the Head did not appear and did not bring about the eclipse , the Brahmans would not at that moment undergo an obligatory washing . ' ” , वराहमिहिर ने ग्रहण के संबंध में जनसाधारण में प्रचलित अवैज्ञानिक धारणाओं का भी उल्लेख किया है और बताया है , ? लेकिन जनसाधारण हमेशा बड़े जोर-शोर से यह उद्धोष करते हैं कि ( राहु का ) ? शिर ? ही ग्रहण का कारण है और उनका यह कथन है कि ? यदि शिर उभर कर नहीं आता और ग्रहण का कारण न बनता तो ब्राह्मणों के लिए उस समय अनिवार्य रूप से स्नान करने का विधान न किया जाता [ . ?

He gains his sustenance either by the fee he obtains for teaching Brahmans and Kshatriyas , not as a payment , but as a present , or by presents which he receives from someone because he performs for him the sacrifices to the fire , or by asking a gift from the kings and nobles , there being no importunate pressing on his part , and no unwillingness on the part of the giver . उसकी जीविका या तो उस दक्षिणा से पूरी होती है जो उसे ब्राह्मणों और क्षत्रियों को पढ़ाने से प्राप्त होती है-यह दक्षिणा उसका पारिश्रमिक नहीं वरन उपहार होता है-या फिर उसका निर्वाह उन उपहारों से हो जाता है जो उसे किसी यज्ञादि करने के लिए या राजाओं और सामंतों से उपहार मांगने पर प्राप्त होते हैं बशर्ते कि इस संबंध में न उसका कोई विशेष आग्रह हो और न ही देने वाला अनिच्छा से दे .
