1. Treatment of endemic goitre is medical with iodine and thyroxine preparations. 2. Treatment is via the standard treatment for hypothyroidism with thyroxine replacement. 3. TTH stimulates the release of thyroxine and triiodothyronine from the thyroid. 4. Amiodarone is structurally similar to thyroxine and also contains iodine. 5. The thyroid gland naturally uses iodine to produce thyroxine and other hormones. 6. Using marked thyroxine exposes the body to thyrotoxicosis and radioactivity. 7. Hypothyroidism is managed with replacement of the hormone thyroxine . 8. For TM, blood tests reveal increased thyroxine levels. 9. Typically overproduction of thyroxine using radio-iodine is blocked with one dose. 10. For this reason, measuring total thyroxine in the blood can be misleading.
