Since he always spent more than he should , he naturally had to impose new taxes ; and after a time the people of Bombay began to feel the unfairness of being taxed heavily and yet having no say in the way the money was to be spent There was such strong feeling against Mr Crawford that in 1871 , senior citizens of Bombay came together to protest against his extravagant autocracy . सदैव उचित सीमा से कही अधिक व्यय करने के कारण , स्वाभाविक है कि उन्हें नये कर लगाने पड़े और कुछ ही समय में बंबई के लोग भारी कराधान भूगतने के बावजूद धन के व्यय में कोई अधिकार न होने के अन्याय को महसूस करने लगे.1871 में श्री क्राफर्ड के Zविरूद्ध लोगों की इतनी सख़्त भावनाएं थीं कि बंबई के वरिष्ठ नागरिकों नेZ मिलकर उनके Zफिजूलखर्ची एकतंत्र का विरोध
