He plays the character with an engaging softness, and has great fun displaying his knack for dialect in scenes in which the Saint impersonates a tough Australian, a suave Spanish ladies man, a yokelish American journalist, an effete Englishman and others.

But this movie is not nearly as much fun as it should be, the whole enterprise is saddled with a yokelish sensibility that wears thin fast, and it's so poorly plotted that it can't build the credibility that even a comedy needs to keep us interested from scene to scene.
